WHAT IS DM1-Hub?
The DM1‑Hub is a nationwide patient registry and collaborative network in Spain dedicated to generating harmonized, multidimensional data from individuals with Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 (DM1) and matched controls.
Bringing together 50 hospitals across eight regions, the network involves over 100 trained professionals and more than 20 specialized staff, including managers, clinicians, researchers, nurses, and neuropsychologists.
Built through a rigorous and standardized process that included site selection, coordinated training, and continuous quality monitoring, the DM1‑Hub natural history registry ensures consistent and high‑quality data collection across all participating centers.
A centralized platform enables real‑time data entry and harmonization, and our governance framework ensures compliance with international standards, robust data protection, and interoperability with global DM1 research efforts.

OUTCOME MEASURES
DM1-Hub collects comprehensive, harmonized data to capture the full clinical spectrum of DM1, integrating clinical, functional, patient-reported and biological outcomes.
-
Clinical characterization covers anthropometric data, lifestyle factors, cardiovascular risk factors, and multisystem involvement (cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary), as well as current medication.
-
Functional assessment includes standardized physical examination and functional tests such as muscle strength (MRC scale), MIRS, 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), 10-Meter Walk/Run Test (10MWRT), 30-second chair-stand test (30SST), and handgrip strength measured by dynamometry.
-
Complementary assessments including ECG, spirometry, and routinely collected laboratory data from the previous year (when available), among others.
-
Demographic and diagnostic data include geographic origin, educational level, occupation, age at diagnosis, age at symptom onset, and family history.
-
Genomic and proteomic characterization, enabling translational research and fostering collaboration across clinical and basic science domains.
-
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) assess sleepiness, fatigue, apathy, physical activity, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and functional status using DM1-Activ.
-
Neuropsychological assessment evaluates global cognition (IQ), memory, attention and processing speed, visuoconstruction, language, and executive functions, using a structured battery administered by trained staff.
